This duet approaches change as a fundamental condition that operates simultaneously on physical, social, and personal levels. Scientific perspectives describe change as constant: particles interact, systems evolve, and large-scale structures emerge and dissolve over time. Human experience mirrors these dynamics in different ways. Relationships shift, identities adapt, and environments transform, often producing conflicting responses.
The performance places two performers within a shared system where change happens through interaction. Rather than presenting a fixed storyline, the choreography is structured around situations that continuously reorganize the relationship between the two bodies. Movement material appears, stabilizes, and then alters as the performers respond to one another’s actions. What begins as cooperation may shift into competition, dependence may turn into distance, and moments of alignment may dissolve into divergence.
A central idea within the work is the effect of observation. In certain areas of physics, observation influences the behavior of a system; similarly, the presence of another person can reshape how an action develops. Within the duet, each performer alternates between acting, responding, and observing. Attention itself becomes an active force: watching, anticipating, or intervening changes the timing, direction, and outcome of movement. As a result, the boundary between observer and participant remains unstable.
The choreography therefore operates as an evolving feedback loop. Small decisions accumulate, leading to unexpected shifts in structure and rhythm. Familiar patterns are repeatedly interrupted, forcing both performers to renegotiate how they share space, weight, and control. These physical negotiations reflect broader human experiences of change and how individuals balance attachment and release, continuity and transformation.
At the center of the piece lies the relationship between two scales of existence: the internal processes that shape personal experience and the larger systems that surround them. By focusing on a duet, the work reduces this complexity to a direct interaction between two bodies. Their evolving connection becomes a condensed model of how change operates more broadly: not as a single event, but as an ongoing series of adjustments that continuously redefine the present moment.
